Domestic Violence in the Workplace

Phoenix Security implement Domestic Violence in the Workplace strategy

This month Phoenix Security attended and spoke at a Domestic Violence in the Workplace Presentation in Newcastle after working in partnership with Northumbria Police and Crime Commissioner Vera Baird.

The new strategy, which is aimed towards providing support and guidance on domestic violence in the workplace, was launched by Vera Baird last month.

We were one of the first North East businesses to commit to this new workplace strategy and launch our Domestic Violence in the Workplace policy.
As an employer we are committed to taking all reasonable steps possible to combat the reality and impact of domestic abuse on those being abused and to challenge the behaviour of perpetrators.

With this new policy we can ensure that both victims and perpetrators of domestic abuse are made aware of the support that is available within our company. We can also ensure that perpetrators of domestic abuse are guided through the relevant channels as stated within our policy with the aim of protecting all those involved.

The Office of Police and Crime Commissioner for Northumbria Vera Baird organised an event for employers on Monday 3rd March to discuss the domestic and sexual violence and abuse in the workplace strategy. Phoenix Security were invited to speak at the event and share how we are implementing the new strategy.

Our HR and Compliance Manager Ian Muldowney, who has taken on the role as Phoenix Security's Domestic Violence Champion, went along to this event and spoke about how we have put into place a Domestic Violence in the Workplace policy and how this is going to be implemented.

This was an excellent opportunity for us to share ideas on such an important issue and we were very happy to attend.

Domestic Violence Champion Ian Muldowney said: "The launch of the violence against women and girls campaign was a huge success. All the guest speakers were well received and the day was very informative. It's clear that domestic violence of all types is a huge problem and the consequences can be devastating. Employers can play a huge part in safeguarding their employees and offering them routes to safety."
